Wouldn’t it be nice?

– if we were older, and we didn’t have to wait so long.

I think I got side tracked. This post isn’t about the Beach Boys. Let me try this again.

Wouldn’t it be nice if local shoppers could save time looking for a local product that you carry? It seems that when one performs a Google search for a specific item to purchase in our area there are little or no valuable search results. Try it! It usually comes up empty. In fact, try looking for anything in the entire state of South Dakota.

We all know what the alternatives are:

  1. Run around town from store to store, wasting gas, wasting energy, and coming up with nothing but feeling tired and a little stressed.
  2. Get out the yellow pages and white pages business listings and call until you are tired of hearing, “nope, we don’t carry those.”

We’ve been working on making a big change in the way shoppers shop that will allow local business product searches in Google, or whatever your favorite search engine be.  With the help and expertise of  local companies, GLDigital and Rushmore Web Design, we are hopeful that we can make this happen: Using the Internet, from home or office, or mobile device, shoppers’ search results will bring up the items they are in need of that your store happens to stock. Elated, they jump into their auto, drive directly to your store and make the purchase.

To all Black Hills Area Business Owners and their customers: Wouldn’t that be nice?

The Black Hills consist of  ”The Southern Hills” and “The Northern Hills”. The Southern Hills is home to Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Jewel Cave National Monument,  Wind Cave National Park,  Custer State Park (the largest state park in South Dakota, and one of the largest in the US), Harney Peak (the highest point east of the Rockies), the Crazy Horse Memorial (the largest sculpture in the world), and The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, the world’’s largest mammoth research facility.
Attractions in the Northern Hills include historic Deadwood and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, held each August. The first Rally was held on August 14, 1938 and the 65th Rally in 2005 saw more than 550,000 bikers visit the Black Hills. It is a key part of the regional economy. Motorcycle riders are also attracted to the Black Hills simply for the many miles of awe-inspiring scenery. Here are some interesting stats covering the 50th anniversary rally in 1990 to the 71st in 2011.

I have viewed the controversial movie “What the Bleep Do We Know?” about ten times. There are a few things about this movie that I don’t care for, especially the inclusion of Ramtha. So why have I watched it ten times? I enjoy watching the interviews of scientists bumping up against the magnificence of creation, while they scratch their heads and say “what is this?”  I also enjoy the science of how our brain works. That doesn’t mean that I totally agree on everything said about the brain and brain chemistry. I’m not an expert. The “Wedding” scene is amusing, and I think most would get a laugh out of it.

It does seem odd that much this movie’s content is portrayed as mysterious and fascinating, yet much is common knowledge. Here’s part 1 from YouTube. I believe the entire movie is posted in a dozen or so parts.

There’s a new movie out that spins off “The Bleep”. It’s “PEOPLE V THE STATE OF ILLUSION.” It’s currently showing in Denver, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, and LA. Here’s a preview:

Yet, another movie that’s sure to induce controversy.

Here’s the media overview from Wikipedia:

What the Bleep Do We Know!? (also written What tнē #$*! D̄ө ωΣ (k)πow!? and What the #$*! Do We Know!?) is a 2004 film that combines documentary-style interviews, computer-animated graphics, and a narrative that posits a spiritual connection between quantum physicsand consciousness. The plot follows the story of a photographer as she encounters emotional and existential obstacles in her life and begins to consider the idea that individual and group consciousness can influence the material world. Her experiences are offered by the filmmakers to illustrate the movie’s thesis about quantum physics and consciousness. The 2004 theatrical release of the film was …

A review from Variety of THE PEOPLE V THE STATE OF ILLUSION: ”People v. the State of Illusion” provides author Austin Vickers a glossy illustrated lecture to propagate his motivational message that we can escape our personal “prisons” through fundamental, liberating shifts in perception. A metaphor-literalizing dramatic thread runs through a feature otherwise dominated by the writer-producer’s direct-to-camera narration, input from the usual experts, and infomercial-style visuals slickly handled by helmer Scott Cervine. Aiming for auds who made “What the #$*! Do We Know!?” a sleeper hit, pic began gradual rollout…

Any comments?

It’s all good news!

Built: May 22, 1936. Architect: Emmet Sullivan

Dinosaur Park is a tourist attraction in Rapid City, South Dakota. Dedicated on May 22, 1936, view the seven dinosaur sculptures on a hill overlooking the city, created to capitalize on the tourists coming to the Black Hills to see Mount Rushmore.

Constructed by the city of Rapid City and the Works Progress Administration, WPA Project #960s. The park is at 940 Skyline Drive. The City of Rapid City maintains Dinosuar Hills Park.  Admission is free, however steep flagstone stairs may limit handicapped accessibility.

On the National Register of Historic Places on June 21, 1990. Dinosaurs represented in the park include Apatosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and an Anatotitan formerly Trachodon. A Protoceratops and a Dimetrodon. Dimetrodon is not actually a dinosaur, added later and placed  near the gift shop and parking lot. With the exception of the Protoceratops, the dinosaurs resemble fossils found in South Dakota and the Western United States. The dinosaurs construction is out of 2 inch black iron pipe, with a wire mesh frame and a concrete skin. Originally they were gray, but by the 1950s the statues lost their drab gray to bright green with white undersides.

Being constructed in the 1930s, the dinosaurs represent the thinking of the times i.e., dragging tails. The tyrannosaurs original finger claws of which it incorrectly had three on each hand as well as its teeth have been lost or damaged over the years to where its hands are stumps and its teeth are all but gone. Vintage postcards of the T. rex do in fact show these were originally part of the sculpture.

The Stegosaurus also had a shorter tail with 4 correct tail spikes, but this has changed recently with the tail spikes removed perhaps due to safety concerns and the tail is considerably lengthened. Gallery of Dinosaur Park Images: Triceratops – May 2003, Stegosaurus – May 2003, Gift Shop – May 2003 located in the parking lot on Skyline Drive.

I was wondering what to post today. My wife, Linda and I were watching a sermon video from a church I attended when I lived in Santa Cruz, CA. I decided I’d share this sermon from Twin Lakes Church, with Pastor Rene Schlaepfer. If you enjoy church, I think you might like the video. If you don’t like church, I think you might like it.
